Text messages from en route

en route by hosted/trips is a trip app that group-trip hosts give their guests. We text only people who said yes, only about a trip they are on, and never for marketing. This page shows exactly how people opt in.

The program

  • Who sends: en route by hosted/trips, run by SRALL, LLC. Texts start with "en route ·".
  • What we send: urgent trip updates from the guest's host (a changed time, a meeting point, a reminder to read an announcement), and SOS alerts to a trip's hosts when a guest presses the SOS button in the app.
  • Who opts in: only the person who will receive the texts, for their own phone number. Nobody can sign someone else up for texts.
  • How often: message frequency varies. Usually a few texts per trip, and only while the trip is on.
  • Cost: message and data rates may apply. en route does not charge for texts.
  • Stop or get help: reply STOP to any text to stop. Reply HELP for help, or email hello@getenroute.app.
  • Optional: texting is never required. The app works fully without it, and everyone gets app notifications either way.

How guests opt in

A guest's host invites them to the trip. The guest opens the invite, joins, and fills in a short pre-trip form in the app. At the end of the form is an unticked box. The guest gets texts only if they tick it and save. These are real screenshots of the app.

The invite screen: 'Hi Robin, your trip is ready' with a Join my trip button and the Terms.
1. The guest opens their invite and taps Join my trip.
The pre-trip form's Text messages section, with the box unticked.
2. On the pre-trip form, the Text messages box starts unticked.
The same section with the box ticked, above the Save button.
3. Only if the guest ticks it and taps Save do they get texts.

The exact words next to the box:

☐ Yes, text me urgent trip updates from my host, like a changed time or a meeting point.

Texts from en route by hosted/trips (SRALL, LLC), only while this trip is on. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop, HELP for help. Text terms · Privacy policy. You'll get app notifications either way.

(In the app, "Text terms" and "Privacy policy" are links that open these pages.)

How hosts opt in to SOS text alerts

A host signs in to en route and opens the trip's SOS list. To get SOS texts, the host ticks an unticked box for their own phone number. A host can add other people's numbers for SOS phone calls only; those numbers never get texts unless that person signs in and ticks the box for their own number.

Trip setup: the host's own phone number, with an unticked box 'Yes, call and text me if a guest sends an SOS on this trip.'
Your own number: the host ticks "Yes, call and text me if a guest sends an SOS on this trip." Only this box turns on texts.
Settings: adding another person to the SOS list for calls only, with an unticked box 'They've agreed to get SOS calls from en route for this trip.'
Someone else's number: calls only. The box reads "They've agreed to get SOS calls from en route for this trip." This number is never texted.

The exact words under the box:

Texts from en route by hosted/trips (SRALL, LLC), SOS alerts only, while this trip is on. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop, HELP for help. Text terms · Privacy policy.

Replying STOP removes that number from SOS texts and calls on every trip.
